Tamil Eelam Liberation Struggle
Introduction
This is a section dedicated to the Marxists, leftists, and revolutionary figures who played a significant role in the Tamil Eelam freedom struggle.
With the arrival of European imperialism in South Asia, the Eelam Tamils lost their sovereignty--first to the Portuguese, then to the Dutch, and finally to the British. Each colonial regime gradually eroded the autonomy of the Tamil homeland, eventually merging it administratively with the Sinhalese-majority south, laying the foundation for the present-day national conflict.
