Dave Gibson

A sensational staging of
Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men

(March 2014)

John Steinbeck’s powerful drama of the Great Depression, gets a wonderful staging in this production [West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds].

Steinbeck’s story of Californian migrant farm workers resonates today, whether it is with Chinese cockle-pickers or workers on zero-hours contracts.

Dyfrig Morris is sensational as Lennie, convincingly conveying both his physical strength and his child-like simplicity.

Lennie and George are characters who share dreams of independence which inspire their fellow workers.

This thought-provoking production, which I’d recommend anyone to see, is intensified throughout by the original use of music.
