Additions & Corrections

In the January 15, 2003 issue of Socialist Viewpoint, we printed an article by Israel Shamir, "The Hurt Pride of Uri Avneri," where he advocated a vote for the Israeli Communist Party on the grounds that it was struggling for equality. We appended a note to Shamir’s essay pointing to the long record of that party, but, from a reader’s response, we were unclear.

The Israeli Communist Party supported the formation of the Zionist settler state from the beginning. It continues to do so by advocating a “two-state solution.” As Mr. Shamir knows very well, this “solution” perpetuates the injustice and exploitation of the Palestinian people. It is as plain as day that the Israeli Communist Party is continuing the Stalinist duplicity that has undercut the efforts to organize the Palestinian and Israeli workers to act in their own name and bury Zionism once and for all. —rh
