Greetings on the beginning of an historic election campaign.
We are writing this letter to extend our solidarity to you, and let you know that we, too, will be running a communist candidate in the elections.
We agree with you on the necessity of raising among the broad masses of the people the questions “Which class will rule”, “Capitalism or Socialism”, and of presenting the alternative of a new Canada, free from foreign domination and class oppression.
This year, more Canadian working people than ever are beginning to raise questions about the destiny of their class and their nation. One has only to look at the so-called “issues” addressed by the political hacks – national destiny, unemployment, quality of life, the taxation of corporations – to see that they, too, are aware of this and are futilely trying to stave off their inevitable downfall with reforms and partial solutions.
This makes it all the more important that sincere communists go out among the people, address these problems with proletarian answers, and engage the masses in struggle with the bourgeois obscurantists, the social democratic class collaborators and the revisionist parliamentary cretins. We must not be afraid to use the enemy’s own elections as a tool against them, as a launching stage for mass democratic discussions. We must not be timid in raising the real question – Which class will rule – and the only answer – the dictatorship of the proletariat – through mass democracy.
History has proven that in the present period of imperialist disintegration, Marxist-Leninists leading mass democratic struggle is the correct method for resolving contradictions among the people and uniting the masses under the leadership of the proletariat to fulfill their historic task – the building of communism.
We look forward to your support in the upcoming struggle and offer you ours in turn.
